Rare Monday and Endangered Animal Info

**Please read what is below if you care about animals. I know it's really long, but read please!**

(I am talking about real life here.) Would you hit a seal? Would you shoot a wolf? Would you let someone do this? Sadly, many people would. About 2000 to 4000 wolves are killed each year and 1095 seals are killed each year as well. If too many of a species are killed, that species could go extinct. And if too many species go extinct... we'll have no animals at all!


In Madagascar, aye-ayes are shot because the people of Madagascar think they are bad luck. Wolves are shot because people want their fur or meat. Some people overfish too – 20000 to 50000 dolphins are hunted each year, and more than 80 million sharks are hunted each year just to cut off their fins and put them in shark-fin soup. Yes, more than 80 million.


There are other reasons for extinction too, such as deforestation and pollution. When people get rid of a habitat that a species lives in, that species has nowhere to go! In fact, the people that got rid of the habitat might hurt the animals to make them leave! Ocean pollution... people just throw trash in the ocean! I'm sure most of you have seen litter floating around in the sea. Fish can get stuck in the trash, and if they struggle too hard they might get hurt. The real question for all of this is... why? Do these people know that they're about to make a whole species disappear when they hunt or cut down a habitat? Just some of the many Critically Endangered animals include the Amur leopard, Red wolf, Javan rhinoceros, and the Southern bluefin tuna. To help raise the awareness of endangered animals in Animal Jam, I've made an Endangered Animal Center in my den:

On the left, there is a Discussion Corner. It's for discussing about endangered and extinct species, as you probably assumed. On the right there is a Endangered Gallery, which is for looking at (some of) the species that are endangered. You can also visit the Conservation Museum in Appondale to learn more about animals and also donate your gems to be turned into real money that will go to wildlife protection centers, such as the National Wildlife Federation.

If you're wondering how you could help, you can tell people around Animal Jam to visit the Conservation Museum, and learn about endangered animals. You (and other people) can also try out these tips to help save animals and habitats:

1. Help clean up oceans and waterways by picking up and throwing out garbage in them.
2. Recycle used paper, cardboard, and junk mail you get (just ask your parents if it's important first).
3. Save paper and write your letter by e-mail.
4. Turn off the lights when you leave a room. It disorients birds, and misdirects frogs and turtles.
5. Plant a tree in a forest – it makes more room for animals.

I hope that you aren't angry because that wasn't about Animal Jam. I just wanted to make real animals stay alive.
